PARC XXVII Pan Am Championships - Doubles Round of 16

There's been no upsets in the women's doubles draw at the XXVII Pan American Racquetball Championships in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, but not all teams has easy matches.

However, the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th seeds - USA, Bolivia and Canada - all won in two straight, while the lower seeded teams went tie-breaker with one exception. Seventh seeds Veronica Sotomayor and Maria Paz Muñoz from Ecuador defeated Carla Muñoz & Maria Paz Riquelme of Chile in two straight games, 15-4, 15-6.

But Costa Rica, Colombia and Argentina all needed a third game to advance. Argentina's struggle was the most surprising, as the 3rd ranked women's pro player - Maria Jose Vargas - is playing for them with Véronique Guillemette. However, the young Venezuelan team of Mariana Tobon and Mariana Parades forced a tie-breaker before losing, 15-5, 14-15, 11-7.

The closest match was between two other young teams: Melania Sauma and Sofia Soley of Costa Rica and Maria Renee Rodriguez and Gabriella Martinez of Guatemala with the Costa Ricans coming out on top by the slimmest of margins: 15-12, 6-15, 11-10.

Only partial results in for the men's doubles, and no surprises so far. Fourth seeds Ricardo Monroy and Roland Keller of Bolivia defeated Gustavo Farrel & Diego Vognione of Uruguay, 15-0, 15-1, and 3rd seeds Daniel Maggi and Shai Mazuri of Argentina beat Miguel Santiago and Jayson Jordan of Puerto Rico, 15-6, 15-7.
